Atfal Matters: What is going on in Israel and Palestine – Pre 1900s history

The Israel-Palestine conflict is one of the world’s most enduring conflicts,
beginning in the mid 20th century.

Both Jews and Muslims have strong religious and cultural ties
to the region dating back more than 4,000 years ago to Abraham
[Hazrat Ibrahim (a.s)] (considered the ‘father’ of the two
religions). In accordance with the Old Testament, God
instructed Abraham and his people to settle in a region roughly
equivalent to modern-day Israel, known as Canaan. In 1,000 BCE King Saul
[Tālūt] established the Israelite monarchy, which continued under King David
[Dāwūd] and his son, Solomon [Sulaimān (a.s)] who built the first Jewish
temple in Jerusalem.

The Jewish claim that the land of Israel belongs to them includes this
historical legacy: The Persians [538 BCE], Greeks [332 BCE], Romans [63 BCE],
Arabs [636], Egyptians [878], Fatimids [969], Seljicks [1073], Crusaders [1099],
Mamluks [1250], and Ottomans (who called the region Palestine) would all
later conquer and rule the region. Jews were forced to flee the area creating a
Diaspora, a dispersion of people from their homeland.

In Surah Bani Isra’il (17:105), Allah says

And after him We said to the children of Israel, ‘Dwell ye in the land; and
when the time of the promise of the latter days comes, We shall bring you
together out of various peoples.

These words show that the Jews were not meant to live in the Holy Land and will
be “brought out”. It shows that Palestine will ultimately belong to the muslims.
Jews began returning to the “promised land” in Palestine under Ottoman rule in the 1800s.
