Friday Sermon, 16th May 2025
This week’s Friday Sermon delivered by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) focused on key events in early Islamic history before the Conquest of Makkah and a touching tribute to two devoted members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
His Holiness (aba) shared stories about two expeditions led by the brave companion Hazrat Abu Qatadah (ra). These missions took place in the 8th year after Hijrah and were aimed at protecting the Muslim community in Madinah from hostile tribes.
One of the expeditions was to a place called Khadirah, where the enemy tribe Banu Ghatafan lived. The Muslims travelled secretly by night and were told not to harm women or children. A companion named Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Hadrad (ra) took part so he could earn rewards to help pay the dowry for his marriage. He trusted Allah and the Prophet (sa) for help. During the battle, he bravely fought an enemy who was mocking Muslims, defeating him alone after a long chase. This episode showed how Muslims trusted Allah and His Messenger (sa) to help them even with personal matters.
During the battle, the Muslims stayed united and followed instructions. One incident showed the bravery of a companion who chased an enemy mocking Islam and defeated him. In the end, the Muslims returned safely with spoils, and the Prophet Muhammad (sa) ensured justice was maintained.
The second expedition was sent to Idam. The purpose of this mission was to distract enemy tribes so they wouldn’t realise that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) was heading towards Makkah. During this journey, a man greeted the Muslims with peace, but due to an old grudge, one companion wrongfully attacked him. Huzoor (aba) explained that this act was not only contrary to Islamic teachings but also deeply troubling for the Holy Prophet (sa). When the companions reported the incident, the Prophet (sa) condemned the act. He reminded them of a powerful verse from the Holy Qur’an (Surah al-Nisa) which says:
“O you who believe! When you go forth in the cause of Allah, make proper investigation, and do not say to someone who greets you with peace, ‘You are not a believer.”
His Holiness (aba) also spoke about Syed Mir Mahmood Ahmad Nasir Sahib, who passed away at age 96. A lifelong devotee, he dedicated his life to the Jama’at at the age of 14 following the demise of his father. Over the decades, he served in numerous capacities including Principal of Jamia Ahmadiyya Rabwah (1986–2010), Wakeelut-Ta’lim, Wakeelut-Tasnif, and Secretary of the London Mission. He also served as a missionary in the UK, USA, and Spain, and was part of the Research Cell and the “Incident of Crucifixion” project. He played a key role in the translation of the Holy Qur’an and was the first to translate all six major Hadith books (Sihah Sitta) into Urdu.
Huzoor (aba) shared that Mir Sahib had a deep love for the Holy Qur’an, and would wake early for Tahajjud, followed by long, heartfelt recitations. His advice to aspiring missionaries included praying in congregation, learning the Qur’an with translation, writing regularly to the Khalifa, and reading all books of the Promised Messiah (as) at least three times. He also encouraged a daily habit of serving others and staying connected to Khilafat through love and obedience. His life was marked by humility, extreme punctuality, and a deep spiritual connection to Allah. His humility and obedience were a shining example for young and old alike. May Allah grant him a high status in Paradise.
Another mention was made of Dr Tahir Mahmood Sahib of Karachi, who passed away while imprisoned for simply holding Friday prayers at an Ahmadi Mosque. He faced harsh treatment and was even attacked in court but remained strong and faithful.
While in jail, he continued spreading the message of Islam Ahmadiyyah with courage. His Holiness (aba) said that due to his patience and sacrifices, he may be counted among the martyrs. May Allah grant him mercy, elevate his status, and give strength to his family.
His Holiness (aba) ended the sermon by encouraging everyone to live with justice, humility, and constant remembrance of Allah. He prayed for all those suffering across the world, especially those facing persecution, and reminded us all to always stay close to Allah and the Khalifa of the time.
