Friday Sermon, 27th June 2025

In this week’s Friday Sermon Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) focused on the remarkable events leading up to the Conquest of Makkah, one of the most significant moments in Islamic history.

His Holiness (aba) shared how the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) strategically approached Makkah with an army of 10,000 companions, aiming to bring peace and end hostility. To demonstrate their strength, the Muslims lit 10,000 campfires, creating a powerful scene that left the Makkans astonished. Among those who witnessed this was Abu Sufyan (ra), a leader of the Quraysh, who realised that the Muslims had now become a great and disciplined force.

Abu Sufyan (ra) spent the night among the Muslims and observed their early morning prayers, offered in complete discipline and unity. Witnessing this, he recognised the true strength of Islam—its followers’ obedience to Allah and the Prophet (sa). During a conversation with the Holy Prophet (sa), Abu Sufyan (ra) admitted that if there were truly other gods, they would have helped the Quraysh by now. It was then that he accepted Islam and pledged allegiance to the Holy Prophet (sa).

His Holiness (aba) explained that the Holy Prophet (sa) granted safety and protection to all those in Makkah who wished to avoid conflict. He made it clear that anyone who remained inside their home, entered the Ka’bah, or sought refuge in the home of Abu Sufyan (ra) would be safe. This was a remarkable example of the Holy Prophet’s (sa) mercy and forgiveness, especially considering how many of the Makkans had fiercely opposed him for years. Even those who had been his greatest enemies were shown compassion at this historic moment.

As the Muslims entered Makkah, they did so with strict instructions not to harm anyone unless attacked. Their entry was peaceful, disciplined, and showed great respect for the Holy City. Although a few individuals were prepared to fight, they were quickly stopped, and the Muslims avoided unnecessary bloodshed. His Holiness (aba) highlighted how the Holy Prophet (sa) honoured those who had once been oppressed. Hazrat Bilal (ra), a former slave who had faced extreme torture for accepting Islam, was now given the honour of raising the Islamic flag during the Conquest. His brother was also given a leadership role, showing how Islam uplifts those who stay patient and loyal to Allah.

His Holiness (aba) also mentioned the passing of Aminah Shanas Sahiba, wife of Inamullah Sahib from Lahore. She leaves behind her husband, son, and four daughters. Her son, serving as a missionary in Senegal, could not attend her funeral.

She was known for her prayers, fasting, and regular recitation of the Holy Qur’an. She had deep love for Khilafat and always encouraged her children to stay connected to the Khalifa. She was very hospitable, treated her neighbours with kindness, and served the Jama’at as Finance Secretary in her area. His Holiness (aba) prayed that may Allah grant her forgiveness, elevate her status, and grant patience to her family.

His Holiness (aba) concluded the sermon by reminding everyone to live with justice, humility, and constant remembrance of Allah. He encouraged prayers for all those suffering around the world and emphasised staying close to Allah and the Khalifa of the time.
